PAIN—it can be my ally alerting me when something needs my attention, or it can be my adversary, with it’s never-ending assaults.
Pain can be experienced acutely or chronically.
Acute pain is short-term pain, usually what you feel after some sort of accident or injury — you break your arm or drop a can of soup on your foot. Once that injury has healed, your pain disappears and doesn’t require further treatment.
Pain can be persistent—Chronic pain is long-lasting pain, generally caused by a condition like Fibromyalgia or arthritis, and is felt differently. Messages are not processed the same way, as from an acute, stub-your-toe or paper-cut pain.
Pain can be lessened by nourishing our stem cells! A study found that a combination of nutrients produce a synergistic effect to promote proliferation of human stem cells. (PubMed – indexed for Medline 2006, Feb. 15) This demonstrates that nutrients can act to promote healing via an interaction with stem cell populations!
What are Stem Cells? There are two basic types of stem cells—embryonic and adult. Controversy surrounds the use of embryonic stem cells but no such debate exists for the use of adult stem cells, which occur naturally in the body. The bone marrow is one of the places where many stem cells are located and have the potential to become other types of tissue cells with a specialized function.
Stem cells are “master cells” that can develop into many different cell types in the body, such as muscle cells, red blood cells or skin cells. We produce adult stem cells from the moment we are born, supporting the natural renewal system.
Healthy stem cells may even slow down the process of aging! They serve as a repair system for the body and can divide without limit to replenish other cells as long as a person or animal is alive.
So what combination of nutrients supports stem cell production?
- Undaria pinnatifida: is a marine alga from pristine ocean environments around the world well known to support the immune system. Fucoidan from Undaria Pinnatifida has been documented to support a long-lasting increase in the number of circulating stem cells.
- Polygonum multiflorum: is an herb with a long history of us to support health and rejuvenation. An extract of Polygonum multiflorum was recently documented to support the release of stem cells from the bone marrow.
- Cordyceps sinensis: (pictured above) is a synergistic ingredient that has been associated with stamina and longevity, and a wide variety of health benefits.
