Fibromyalgia is a Constant Pain!

Fibromyalgia is said to be a disorder of the central nervous system, which causes abnormal pain processing and results in amplified pain, which is often a constant pain.

The associated pain can also be widespread and be accompanied by fatigue and sleep disturbances. Other symptoms include:

>>cognitive dysfunction
>>depression and anxiety
>>irritable bowel syndrome
>>cold/heat intolerance
>>headaches
>>restless legs syndrome

A Constant Pain  

A constant pain, one that never ends, is the most prominent symptom of Fibromyalgia. It affects all four quadrants of the body, although not necessarily at the same time. Its intensity may range from mild to profound. It is a constant pain that people have described as burning, throbbing, sharp, stabbing or shooting.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome – a constant pain of the bowel 

If you have fibromyalgia, you are more than likely to have Irritable Bowel Syndrome, too.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a disorder that involves a constant pain in the abdomen with cramping, bloating, as well as changes in bowel movements – constipation or diarrhea, or alternation of both. People with IBS often experience anxiety and depression.

The root causes of FMS and IBS are not clear. Though they are two separate disorders, they often overlap, yet no one knows why. There isn’t anything wrong with the structure of the organs, but with how they work.

People with those conditions respond to pain differently. IBS patients are hypersensitive to intestinal pain; people with Fibromyalgia are hypersensitive to skin and muscle pain. There is a lowered threshold to pain sensation in general.

Both conditions can drastically hamper daily life. For instance, someone with a constant pain in the abdomen may have to rush to a bathroom after the abdominal pain begins. The symptoms can last a couple of hours to a day at a time.

Whether it is Irritable Bowel Syndrome or Fibromyalgia, It is a constant pain that researchers have not been able to figure out how to turn off.
